There is a sign posted in my favorite breakfast cafe: “there are people who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who wonder what happened.”
In reality, we do all three. For myself, I want to re-write the phrase to:
I wonder about many things, I watch things happen, and then I make things happen based on what I have wondered and watched.”
Wondering is an action of curiosity. What if…? Why is…? How come…? I choose to embrace and nourish my curiosity; it is necessary to my being a designer/artist. Marian Bantjes collection of essays, I Wonder, explores wonder, honour and memory, amongst a visual cacophony of pattern and decoration. Her “book of ideas” inspires this collection of musings – although without the tactility of a book, or in my case a textile. I find writing difficult too, and this blog format eases the flow of ideas, both visually and textually.
Welcome. Wander. Wonder.
